Liga MX set for US$1.25bn Apollo investment

Liga MX, organising body of the top division of Mexican club football, has received an investment approach from Apollo Global Management.

The approach from the US investment management firm, first reported by the Sportico website, would see Apollo inject $1.25bn (£989.6m/€1.16bn) into Liga MX in exchange for a share of 20% of the profits from the its international broadcast rights over the next 50 years.

However, the proposal, which would exclude domestic rights, is said to be contingent on clubs agreeing to change the current rights model which allows for individual team negotiations for commercial deals, rather than collective rights selling.
