Chelsea's £4.25bn sale to Todd Boehly-led consortium completed
Chelsea has confirmed a final and definitive agreement has been entered into for the £4.25bn (€4.99bn/$5.37bn) sale of the English Premier League football club to the consortium of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
The group led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Boehly and the US investment firm was initially chosen on May 7, with the deal subsequently requiring clearance from the Premier League, UK Government and European authorities.
Boehly said “We are honoured to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club, we’re all in – 100% – every minute of every match. Our vision as owners is clear: we want to make the fans proud.
“Along with our commitment to developing the youth squad and acquiring the best talent, our plan of action is to invest in the club for the long term and build on Chelsea’s remarkable history of success. I personally want to thank ministers and officials in the British government, and the Premier League, for all their work in making this happen.”
Roman Abramovich has owned Chelsea since 2003 and in March placed the club up for sale ahead of sanctions placed upon him by the Government owing to his ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
